Wiring In Drop Ceiling

Installing a drop ceiling as such is a very simple process. It does not take much time or labor. Plus it is also quite cost-efficient. All this can be done in no time but the only thing that might be a bit time consuming is the lighting part; that is only if you want to re-do the lighting completely.

Drop ceiling lighting can be of many types but typically people prefer recessed can lighting for suspended ceilings. You could also have florescent lighting if you like the look of it. Either way, you need to have appropriate wiring in drop ceiling to get the desired result.

One thing you should keep in mind for the recessed lighting fixture is to install the wiring before putting the suspension wires in place. These wires are used to support the main tee. Fitting the recessed can after putting the suspension wires in place will be difficult and definitely not worth your time and effort.

You must know exactly where you want your lights to go. Usually people have the lights in the center of the ceiling but again it depends on how many lights you want in your room. So position your lights accordingly.

Do not leave the wires on the grid. Just staple them to the bottom of the joist when the recessed can is above the drop ceiling. You don’t need to drill the wires. Stapling will be fine. You can mount the cans to the joist just like you would do with drywall. Cut the holes in the tile of the size that matches the recessed can.

Another way to do the wiring in drop ceiling is to clip the housing of the recessed can to the T-bar. Here again you need to decide where you want the lights to go. Then cut the hole in the tile, and then install the housing by extending the brackets to the T-bar.

You can make the lighting for your drop ceiling a budget-friendly option just like any suspended ceiling installation. All you need to do is a bit of planning and you are sure to get the wiring in drop ceiling right without any mess.

If you have doubts about where the wires should run and how to fix the lights then it would be best to take the help of an electrician. You don’t want to keep drilling holes in your drop ceiling tiles and make it look awful. Wiring can be cumbersome if you are not accustomed to electric fixtures and their procedures.

So don’t mind spending a bit on professional help so make sure you have the best possible lighting and wiring for your drop ceiling.
