Drop Ceiling Lighting

A well lit house adds to its beauty. There’s nothing like getting natural sunlight in your home as your home will look bright and airy during the day and cozy during nights. But artificial lighting also plays an important role in making your home look comfortable and inviting.

The lighting of your home should be in coordination with your décor. Most lighting is fixed inside or over the ceiling and few of them is wall mounted. If you have a drop ceiling then you have many options to light-up your home. Most basements have suspended ceilings or an acoustic grid/tile ceiling where appropriate lighting is a must. However, if you do have suspended ceiling then you are in luck as it is very easy to install drop ceiling lighting.

You can either put can light, fluorescent light or recessed light in your drop ceiling. The lighting choice depends on your preference and the room in which it is installed. If it’s the basement then the lighting option would be much different than that of the kitchen or the bedroom. Again if you are considering illuminating your basement by using a drop ceiling lighting, you must consider for what purpose you are going to use the room.

If it’s a recreational area then the lighting should be bright enough to give good illumination so that you have adequate lighting to do the activities in there. But if you are using your basement as a spare bedroom or living room, make sure the lights are not too bright and flashy. In this case, recessed drop ceiling lighting seems to be the best option as they are subtle and give a very nice look to your room.

Nowadays you get translucent drop ceiling tiles which gives a cool effect to your lighting option. Although most drop ceilings use florescent lighting, recessed lights give a better effect but they need to be securely attached to the metal grid/panel of your suspended ceiling.

The recessed can lights come with adjustable mounting brackets that can be easily fixed between joists or snapped on the grid. But make sure you don’t install the lights too close to combustible materials and there is a risk of over-heating and fire. So if you are unsure about the lighting position, take help from a professional electrician.

Drop ceiling lighting is made easy with the many mounting brackets that are specially designed for suspended ceilings. These brackets easily lock on to the T-bar grid making installation a piece of cake!
